Continuing the tour!!

Hygge is synonymous with a warm drink. If you look at so many of the Kindle books about hygge that came out, so many of them feature a pair of hands clasped around a warm drink of tea, coffee or (the hygge favourite) cocoa.

Indeed, when Meik Wiking’s favourite description of hygge is as “cocoa by candlelight” then you know a hot drink is an important part of any hygge-lover’s life.

So, why is that? Well, a hot drink, to me, would seem to symbolise a stopping point in life. You can’t successfully sip a cup of hot liquid while moving. Not like you can slurp a bottle or sip a straw. You can’t just grab and go. And, yes, I can  hear you muttering about Starbucks and Costa and their cups and covers, but hear me out.

Even if you buy a cup of coffee from there, I’m willing to bet that you will take it somewhere else to sit and drink it. Even if it’s only the next park bench. Hot liquids and travelling, you see, they just don’t go. Not safely.

A warm drink is an invitation to pause, to rest in the moment and to recharge the batteries. Drink with friends,and that’s a hyggely moment right there. Add something sweet and it’s not just hyggely, you’re having a fika break.

And we all need more of those, don’t we?
