Is there any mess more glorious than the floor of a family home on Christmas Day morning? Andy Rooney, of whom I know nothing more than this quote, said it was “One of the most glorious messes in the world,” before adding, “Don’t clean it up too quickly.”
Indeed, the paper displayed after every little gift has been opened, oohed and aahed over and placed to one side ready for the next one is a beautiful sight, but it’s only physical, as are the gifts.

My favourite gifts at Christmas have never been the physical ones, the ones that came in a bag from a shop. My favourite gifts are those that I discover in the ones I love. The patience of a big brother helping to set up a game with a thousand pieces for a younger sibling, the husband who fetches the cup of tea without being asked at the end of a marathon cooking session. The daughter who makes the meal while I’m out at work and due out at a meeting in thirty minutes time.
The gifts of love, peace, patience, respect; the gift of time, the gift of freedom. These are the gifts I cherish most, and they are the most precious of them all. They are also the gifts I love to give, to parents, to my husband, to my friends. Presence, not presents, is the best gift after all.

I have a massive favour to askā¦.
I donāt monetise my blog. I donāt run adverts, take sponsorship for writing posts or use affiliate links. I want everything I do on this blog and in my hygge life outside to be truthful. If I promote a book itās because Iāve read it and like it, if IĀ point out an item itās because itās impressed me on its own merits and not because the publicist has talked me into it. It does mean I donāt run giveaways and Iām not chasing followers, but the drawback is that I need to find a way to support myself.
Thatās why I write books. My thoughts are that if I ask you to buy a book not only does it support me, and let me keep writing as an independent writer, but you get something back for your bucks. Iāve written several books, some on hygge, some on Christmas. If you like what you read here, or in the Hygge Nook, and youād like to support a struggling writer, would you please consider buying a book? Ebooks give you the best value, since for 2 or 3 pounds you get the content of the book, but Iād be a pretty poor writer if I didnāt appreciate the beauty of a real book in the hand. If you buy just one book, it all adds up in the end to support me, and Iād be so grateful.
I have three Christmas books,
Have Yourself a Happy Hygge ChristmasĀ was released in September 2017 and is available again inĀ paperbackĀ andĀ ebookĀ version. It looks at keeping the Christmas season warm and cosy, with ideas for activities and routines to keep Christmas happy.
A (Hygge) Christmas CarolĀ is my look at Dickensā immortal classic and the many lessons we still learn from it today. It contains the full text of the book as well as hyggely thoughts on the story.
Enjoying a Self Care ChristmasĀ is only available in ebook version. Itās about keeping Christmas simple enough and healthy enough to keep you sane in the process.
My other books are hygge related,Ā 50 Ways to Hygge the British WayĀ Ā was my first book, and is available inĀ PaperbackĀ andĀ KindleĀ version. Itās a simple look at ways to feel more hyggely in life and at home even though weāre not Danish and donāt have it in our DNA.
How to Hygge Your Summer, inĀ PaperbackĀ andĀ KindleĀ form, has lots of good ideas for the summer months. I strongly believe that hygge is so much more than throws and warm drinks.
HappierĀ is my fourth book. Itās about how I boost my own happiness levels. Itās full of hints, tips and ideas for you to use and adapt to suit your own situation. It is available inĀ ebookĀ andĀ paperbackĀ version fromĀ Amazon.co.ukĀ and Amazon.com.
If you buy any of the books through the links on this page, I get a couple of extra pence per copy, in Amazon vouchers which go towards buying more books to review for the blog. Iād really love it if youād support me monetarily, but I quite understand that cash is tight for many people, and I just love having your support via reading and commenting as well.
