I love the Hygge Nook. If you’re into positive, calm, welcoming, friendly places on the internet, you could do worse than join it, even if you have to join Facebook for the purpose. It is one of the kindest, most inspiring places I know, so much so that I have the link straight to it on my home page. I no longer need to see anything negative, just the uplifting kindness that is thousands of people all coming together to share their hygge.
I am, like many this year, seeking a calm and bright Christmas. Whatever your politics, you have to agree that the outside world is a less-than friendly place, that we seem more divided than ever before and that the least-used words in most areas of public life at the moment are ‘consensus’ and ‘agreement’. It’s tiring, and I’m ready to carve space for me. Nobody can be completely on guard or fighting a position 24 hours a day, everybody needs a break. I’m hoping writing, and reading, these blogposts will be that break. A few minutes when all is calm and all is bright before pulling up my big girl socks and getting on with real life, whether that is good or bad.
So this year, inspired by an Italian Hygge Nook member, I have drawn up a list of 24 words to meditate on each day. They’ll be short posts, no more than a few lines, usually with a quote or picture to focus my brain on. 24 small words to bring me back to the heart of Christmas. Will you join me? I love seeing different people take an idea and run with it, so if my list of words doesn’t apply to your Christmas, take them, change them and use the ones that do. Hygge is a very individual feeling, and no more so than at Christmas when personal memories, likes and dislikes and attitudes come to the fore.

I don’t monetise my blog. I don’t run adverts, take sponsorship for writing posts or use affiliate links. I want everything I do on this blog and in my hygge life outside to be truthful. If I promote a book it’s because I’ve read it and like it, if I point out an item it’s because it’s impressed me on its own merits and not because the publicist has talked me into it. It does mean I don’t run giveaways and I’m not chasing followers, but the drawback is that I need to find a way to support myself.
That’s why I write books. My thoughts are that if I ask you to buy a book not only does it support me, and let me keep writing as an independent writer, but you get something back for your bucks. I’ve written several books, some on hygge, some on Christmas.
