When I started up my A Weekend With… series I had a few blog heroes that I wanted desperately to feature. I wanted Lucy of Attic 24, knew I had to have Gillian of Tales From a Happy House and dreamed of having Jane from the Posy blog.

Jane no longer writes her blog, due to reasons she’ll explain below, but it’s still there in archive form and still one of my favourite blogs to read. Her stories of an ordinary life in and around the lanes of Torbay was one of my first blogs that I followed, and one I kept coming back to as a source of inspiration and enjoyment. It’s like going back to the home of a well-loved friend and sinking into the armchair that you know is molded to your body and yet gives the support you need. If you can have such a thing as comfort blogs, then Posy is one of mine.

In fact this photograph of her fireplace, labelled bliss, was my screen saver on my work computer for so long when I was at school. The children all asked was it mine and, with a heavy heart, I always had to say no.

It still sums up bliss to me, and perfectly captures the hygge that Jane had at a time when hygge wasn’t in anyone’s vocabulary. The whole blog is like that, full of life and love and living and so beautifully written that it’s like a conversation with an old (in time, not age) friend. (and doesn’t Posy rhyme beautifully with cosy?)

I was delighted when Jane said yes to being a hygge blog, despite her blog’s last entry being nearly 6 years ago. She posts mostly on Instagram now, where her photographs work well with even shorter writing posts. I miss her writing, but that’s because I’m greedy for words as well as pictures. Put aside a fair amount of time this weekend for reading over the blog. If she’s an old friend of yours as well, I know you’re in for a treat. If you’ve never read Posy, then you’re in for an even bigger treat and you’re welcome. Enjoy.

Where are you based?
I live in Torbay, in beautiful Devon in the UK. I initially moved here in the 70’s when I was 9 as my parents were the managers of a large seaside hotel. I left home at 18 and did nannying jobs in Paris, Scotland and London. It was while I was in London that I met my soulmate, Anthony, who was working in a hotel in Scotland that my parents (who had now moved) ran.
Anth is from New Zealand so 10 days after we married we flew to Wellington and lived there for 3 years.
On our return we settled in Plymouth, then a few years later bought the home in which we now live in in Torbay.

How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog in January 2006 and my last post was in December 2011. I am on an extended blog break!  My laptop broke unexpectedly and with some family issues I just found that I didn’t have the time or desire to blog. It wasn’t really a conscious thing: I just fizzled out. I still think I may go back to it (if I can remember how to post!) but at this time in my life, Instagram suits me perfectly.

What’s your blog mostly about?
My blog is very eclectic but has strong themes of family life, our home and whatever my latest obsession is! It initially was a journal for our New Zealand family but soon evolved into what treasures I had found on my travels, painting our wooden bed numerous colours, my love of all things floral, a bit of crafting and an unhealthy dose of Chris Martin!

Do you have a favourite picture on your blog?
I don’t think I do actually. There have been a few that have been quite popular but often it’s just the memories or the people that make it special.
I think the following photo sums up my love of my home and fire and of course Christmas!

Which is your favourite post?
Again I don’t think I have a definite favourite but the 31/7/07 post, ‘The One Where I Find Myself In The Back Of A Taxi In Central London At 1am With 3 Strangers – Wearing My Husband’s Underpants…’ brings back some good memories!

Have you ever heard of hygge? Do you think your blog shows hygge?
I have heard of hygge and thought it quite nicely reflects quite a lot of what I love most in life. I am an autumn/winter girl and scented candles, my fireplace and tea hold a rather large part of my heart. Now it has a name!
I do think my blog shows hygge – it is cosy, homely and celebrating family.

Who are your blog heroes?
Well, I will have to mention Soulemama as she was the very first blog I ever came across and was inspired to write my own. I also love Curlew Country too. Steph’s photographs are stunning and remind me why I’m a true British girl.

I wonder what it would take to get Jane writing her blog again? Perhaps I should start a Just Giving page to bribe her with! Certainly I miss her long posts. For now, though I can only thank her enormously for that insight into her life and advise you to follow her on Instagram at once!

I’m off to plan a few hours of wandering down memory lane with Posy. If you know any good blogs that you think show hygge and you’d love to see featured here, please let me know. I’m always eager to show that hygge… real hygge… is something we’ve always been able to do.

I love the idea that the UK has embraced hygge… that even though it’s May, we’re still thinking hyggely. #britishhygge is a thing,and I can’t wait for next Autumn and Winter, when hygge will have bedded in, and got beyond the superficially commercial selling of blankets and candles and have begun to bed down into our subconscious as just something we do all year round.
